Circular Ceramics Range
by Sara Howard | London
Handmade using industrial by-waste
Size | L ~ 800g ~ 23(w) x 8(l) x 3(h) cm
The Circular Ceramics tray range boasts a raw, contemporary look and is made of 100% industry waste. The range’s composition consists of 40% Glass industry waste; 20% Stone industry waste; 40% Quarry industry waste and reclaimed clay body.
Many of the raw materials used today for ceramic production are expected to run out over the next 30 years, based on current rates of consumption and our known resources. In addition, England produced over 10 million tonnes of industrial waste in 2018, containing many of the finite raw materials which are becoming scarcer and already seeing an increase in price as a result.
Sara Howard's new range of tray plates demonstrates the possibility of substituting typical mined materials for alternative, sustainable materials and her production process is also designed to be as ecological as possible as it requires neither, energy consumption nor it produces any excess materials such as plaster, often used to produce ceramic forms, which also contributes to landfill waste and pollution.
